This is an wonderful example of a genuine USGI Great War helmet from the Signal Corps of the US army

It still has a cleaning / ramrod under the barrel

showing that this gun was made after 1813

it’s still soft to touch

Both items show weathering and are dirty in ways definitely indicative of sitting on the ground unprotected for a while.
